The Argentine government has vowed to place former BuenosAiresHerald.com journalist Damian Pachter into a witness protection programme if he chooses to return to Argentina but highlighted that he should have sought help from the country’s Security Ministry before filing a complaint with international organizations.
The government made the statements on Pachter in its response to the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights’ request for information. Pachter’s attorney received the documents on Friday.
Pachter, the first journalist to report on AMIA special prosecutor Alberto Nisman’s death on January 18, left Argentina on January 23, claiming that he was being followed and he feared for his life.
The IAHCR first decided to intervene on behalf of Pachter in March, after his private flight information was published on the state-run news agency Télam.
