FDD’s Alberto Nisman Award for Courage

FDD Senior Vice President Jonathan Schanzer presents the Alberto Nisman Award for Courage to the U.S. v. Atilla team, and FBI Special Agent Jennifer McReynolds delivers remarks after accepting the award on behalf of her team.

Inaugurated in 2015, FDD’s Alberto Nisman Award for Courage is named for the late Argentine special prosecutor who worked tirelessly to bring to justice those responsible for the 1994 terrorist bombing of the AMIA Jewish Community Center in Buenos Aires.  Alberto Nisman possessed uncommon resolve and devoted his life to the unwavering pursuit of truth. We continue to be inspired by his work and the legacy he has left behind for law enforcement, the policy community, and all those who care about justice.

In honor of the courage of Alberto Nisman, this award was presented to the Assistant United States Attorneys and FBI Agents for the Southern District of New York who worked on United States v. Atilla, an Iran sanctions-busting case involving the highest levels of the Turkish government. Their meticulous dedication to this important case sets a precedent about the consequences of sanctions violations and those who aim to jeopardize the U.S. financial system.
